Father set out for Cana and before long he found Jesus. He squeezed through the crowd and finally stood before Him. He was disappointed in the way Jesus looked. He had on ordinary clothes and did not look like a special person. He decided to ask Him anyway, and begged Him to come and heal his little boy.
Jesus said, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”
Father suddenly realized that he was thinking that very thing! If Jesus didn’t heal his son he wouldn’t believe Jesus was the Son of God. He said, "Sir, come down before my child dies!”
Jesus loved this man and his whole family, and was happy that he now had faith in Him. Jesus said, “Go your way, your son lives.”
The way Jesus spoke, and the kind look on His face gave the father confidence that what He said was true. He showed that he was a true believer because he immediately left for home. He knew that Jesus’ words alone were powerful enough to heal. How happy he was to know his son would live!
As he neared his home, the nobleman saw some of his servants coming to meet him. "Your son lives!” they told him excitedly. He asked them what time it was when the boy started getting better.
“Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him,” they answered. That was the exact time when Jesus had spoken the healing words! When he arrived home the nobleman called his family and his servants together and told them the wonderful story of his meeting with Jesus. All of them believed that Jesus was truly the Savior.
One day Jesus was teaching the people by the seaside. A ruler of the synagogue, named Jairus, came and fell at Jesus’ feet. “My little daughter lies at the point of death,” he said. “Come and lay your hands on her, . . . and she will live.” Matthew tells us that she was his only daughter and about 12 years of age. How anxious Jairus was to have Jesus heal his daughter!
Jesus and the disciples started to go with Jairus. The crowd was very large.
They could only move slowly. Many people wanted to get near Jesus so they could be healed. One poor woman had been sick for 12 years. She believed that if she could only touch Jesus’ clothing she would be healed. She managed to reach the border of his robe with her fingers. Immediately she was healed. Jesus asked, “Who touched Me?” The woman came and knelt before Him and confessed that she was the one. Jesus told her, “Your faith has made you well.”
As this was taking place, some servants came from Jairus’ house and told him that his little girl was dead. “Why trouble the teacher any further?” they said.
Jesus overheard the sad news.”Do not be afraid, only believe,” He said to Jairus. They continued on toward Jairus’ home. Jesus allowed only Peter, James and John to go with Him.
As they reached the house, they heard the voices of the mourners weeping and wailing sorrowfully. The house was filled with crying people. “Why make this commotion and weep?” Jesus asked. “The child is not dead, but sleeping.”
The people stopped their weeping and started laughing, making fun of Jesus’ words. Jesus asked them to leave. Then He took the child by the hand. “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Immediately she sat up, got off the bed and walked. Jairus and his wife were amazed to see their little girl, who had been dead, alive and well, smiling happily. After suggesting that she be given something to eat, Jesus and His disciples went on their way The house that had been filled with sorrow was now filled with joy.
Wherever Jesus went He brought happiness. He taught people how to live. He healed the sick. He raised the dead. It is no wonder that people loved Him and wanted to follow Him.
